Summer 2026 Newsletter

As we wrap up our 2026 Summer Rec League season, the coaching staff would like to share how incredibly proud we are of every Hurricanes swimmer. This season was filled with hard work, determination, personal bests, and unforgettable memories. From our newest swimmers learning the fundamentals to our experienced athletes stepping up in competition, every member of our team contributed to a successful summer.

We are proud of all the achievements our swimmers earned throughout the season and grateful for the support of our families, volunteers, and YMCA staff who helped make it all possible.

As we look ahead to the upcoming season, we are excited to announce that the 2026-2027 Swim Meet Schedule has been finalized. Our first competition will be the Copley-Price Development Meet on September 12, followed by the McGrath Pentathlon on September 26. We are looking forward to another exciting year of competition, growth, and success for the Hurricanes Swim Team.

Development Swim Team

One of the most exciting additions to the Hurricanes Swim Team this summer was the launch of our new Swimmer Development Program. Created by Head Coach Carlo, this program was designed to provide additional coaching opportunities for swimmers of all skill levels, including our Pre-Novice, Novice, Bronze, and Silver groups.

The program serves several purposes. It provides a smoother transition for swimmers who are preparing to join the Novice group but are not quite ready to meet the qualifying time. It also gives current Hurricanes swimmers extra time in the water to improve their stroke technique, build confidence, and receive more individualized coaching. Additionally, it offers families interested in joining the Hurricanes Swim Team an opportunity to experience our coaching style and training environment before becoming part of the team.

Held on Fridays from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the Swimmer Development Program quickly became a success. Attendance peaked at five swimmers, with many families expressing interest in participating throughout the summer.

Coach Carlo, along with Coach Eden, enjoyed watching swimmers grow each week. From learning the fundamentals to refining stroke technique, every swimmer made meaningful progress through the additional practice and personalized instruction.

We are incredibly proud of the success of our Swimmer Development Program and look forward to expanding it in the future.

Summer Rec League Success

The 2026 Summer Rec League season was a tremendous success for the Hurricanes Swim Team. Throughout the season, our swimmers demonstrated outstanding commitment, sportsmanship, and determination in every meet and practice.

We saw countless personal best times, improved technique across all age groups, and incredible teamwork as swimmers supported one another both in and out of the pool. Whether competing for the first time or representing the Hurricanes as experienced athletes, every swimmer played an important role in making this season special.

The coaching staff is extremely proud of the progress made this summer and looks forward to building on these accomplishments throughout the upcoming season.

Equipment Improvements

This summer, the team continued investing in resources that support swimmer development.

New Equipment

Thanks to the support of our YMCA, families, and continued program growth, we have expanded our inventory of training equipment. The addition of new equipment allows our coaches to provide more effective instruction and create engaging practices for swimmers at every level.

Equipment Care Reminder

Please help us keep our equipment in great condition:

  • Return equipment to its designated storage area.
  • Handle kickboards, fins, pull buoys, and paddles with care.
  • Avoid throwing, standing on, or misusing equipment.
  • Report damaged equipment to a coach.
  • Help keep equipment organized for the next practice group.

Thank you for helping us maintain these valuable resources.

Team Store Update

We're excited to continue our partnership with Swim West Swim Store!

Families can purchase official Hurricanes Swim Team gear to represent the team at practices, meets, and community events. Additional information regarding apparel, equipment, and ordering instructions can be found on our SwimTopia page and through future team communications.

Coach's Corner

Welcome Back, Head Coach Carlo

This summer marked the return of Coach Carlo to the Hurricanes Swim Team. His leadership, experience, and dedication to swimmer development have helped athletes grow both in and out of the pool.

A Message From Coach Carlo

I am incredibly excited to be back on deck with the Hurricanes Swim Team and working alongside such a dedicated group of swimmers and families. Returning this summer reminded me what makes this program so special: the commitment, energy, and passion our swimmers bring every day.

As we move into the next season, I am looking forward to continuing our growth and helping our athletes reach new levels of success. Together, our goal is simple: to keep improving, keep developing great swimmers, and work toward putting the Hurricanes back on top. Thank you for your continued support, and I can't wait to see what we accomplish together this season.

Welcome Coach Sunny

This summer, we were excited to welcome Coach Sunny to the Hurricanes coaching staff as our Assistant Swim Team Coach. Coach Sunny quickly became an important part of our program, bringing energy, encouragement, and a passion for helping swimmers succeed.

A Message From Coach Sunny

I have truly loved coaching with the Hurricanes this summer and getting to know all of our amazing swimmers and families. Watching everyone grow in confidence, learn new skills, and achieve their goals has been incredibly rewarding.

Although I won't be on deck every day moving forward, I'll still be around from time to time. When you see me at the pool, please be sure to stop by and say hello! Thank you all for making this summer such a wonderful experience, and I look forward to seeing everyone's continued success.

A Reflection From Coach Eden

Hello Hurricanes Families,

My first summer coaching with the Hurricanes Swim Team has been an incredible experience. Watching our swimmers grow and develop over the past several months has been truly rewarding.

This summer, our practices focused on improving individual medley skills, dives, starts, turns, sprinting, and overall technique. We also introduced new drills, games, and training methods to keep practices engaging and effective.

One of the biggest additions to our program was the coaching database developed by Coach Carlo. This resource has helped us build practices around specific swimmer goals while tracking progress and training data throughout the season.

Thank you to all of our swimmers and families for making my first summer with the Hurricanes so memorable. I can't wait to see what we accomplish together in the coming season!

Hurricanes & YMCA of Tijuana Binational Agreement

The Hurricanes Swim Team is proud to announce a new Binational Partnership Agreement with the YMCA of Tijuana. This partnership represents a unique opportunity to build friendships, create new competitive experiences, and strengthen the YMCA mission across borders.

As part of this exciting collaboration, we will host the YMCA's First Binational Swim Meet on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Border View Family YMCA. Warm-ups will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with competition beginning shortly after and running through approximately 1:00 PM. The meet is open to swimmers of all levels and there is no registration fee for participants.

This meet will feature individual events, relays, and team scoring, allowing swimmers from both organizations to compete together in a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Swimmers will be eligible to compete in up to four individual events, and teams will earn points throughout the competition as they battle for international bragging rights.

We are also excited to announce that La Central Birrieria y Menuderia, owned by Miguel Fernandez, will be on-site as our official food vendor for the event. Families and spectators will have the opportunity to enjoy great food while cheering on their swimmers throughout the day.

This event marks the beginning of what we hope will become a long-standing tradition between the Hurricanes Swim Team and the YMCA of Tijuana.

End of Summer Season Party

Join us as we celebrate another incredible summer with the Hurricanes Swim Team!

Our End of Summer Season Party will be held at the Teen Center on Friday, August 21. This special event is an opportunity to recognize our swimmers, coaches, volunteers, and families for their dedication, hard work, and support throughout the season.

Following the party, everyone is invited back to the pool for our Flick & Float Movie Night. Pool activities and open swim will begin at 7:30 PM, and Finding Nemo will start promptly at 8:00 PM. Families are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and enjoy a fun evening under the stars with fellow Hurricanes families as we celebrate the end of a fantastic summer season.
