July Newsletter
Dear Hurricanes Swim Team, I hope this message finds you well and in high spirits! I am thrilled to share the fantastic results from our meet this past Saturday. Every single one of you performed exceptionally well, showcasing your dedication and hard work. I am incredibly proud to be a part of this amazing team and to witness our growth together. As we dive into our summer session, it's essential to address a few important points to ensure everyone stays healthy and hydrated. We are strongly encouraging all swimmers to bring a water bottle to every practice. Training under peak sunlight can be demanding, and staying hydrated is crucial. We've already had some instances of kids feeling lightheaded due to not drinking enough water. Why is Water Important for Kids in Sports? Water plays a vital role in maintaining our overall health and performance, especially for young athletes. It helps regulate body temperature, keeps joints lubricated, and supports optimal muscle function. Dehydration can lead to decreased energy levels, muscle cramps, and impaired cognitive function. By drinking plenty of water, our swimmers can perform at their best and stay safe during practice. We're also excited to announce the launch of our new Silver Team, Our practices will run from 5 to 7 PM, starting with 30 minutes of dry land training followed by an hour and a half in the pool. This week, we'll assess each swimmer's times to determine their skill level and track their overall progress. The Silver Team will train Monday through Thursday, providing ample opportunity for improvement and camaraderie among teammates. Registration is priced at $150 per month, with YMCA members eligible for discounts. Upcoming Meet: Our next meet is scheduled for July 13th at the McGrath YMCA. The meet will start at 4 PM, with warm-ups beginning at 2:30 PM. Please ensure you are on deck by 2:15 PM to prepare adequately. Registration is now open, and you can register here or by calling the front desk. (https://community.ymcasd.org/s/registration). Going forward, we strongly encourage all swimmers to bring their own swim fins and swim paddles to practice. This is essential as we prioritize technique and stroke development. While we will have some fins and paddles available as backups on deck, our current stock lacks full size coverage, and some equipment is not in optimal condition. If financial constraints prevent you from acquiring swim fins or paddles, please approach me directly, and we can work something out. We are dedicated to ensuring every swimmer has the essential gear for success.
